Jasper vs Copy.ai vs Writesonic (2026): we tested all three so you don't have to

Last updated: October 14, 2026 · By AI Scoutly Editorial · Prices checked against official pricing pages on October 14, 2026

Most comparisons of these three tools were written in 2024 and are now actively misleading. All three have repositioned since then: Jasper doubled down on brand-governed marketing content, Copy.ai pivoted into go-to-market (GTM) sales automation, and Writesonic rebuilt itself as an AI Search Visibility platform that tracks whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews cite your brand. Comparing them as “AI writers” in 2026 misses what you are actually buying.

For this comparison we ran the same three briefs through all three platforms: a product launch email sequence, a 1,500-word SEO blog post, and a batch of ten LinkedIn ad variants. Below is what each tool is genuinely like to use in October 2026, what it costs at sign-up, and who should pick which.

Jasper: the one that still behaves like a marketing writing tool

Jasper is the only one of the three whose 2026 pitch would still make sense to its 2023 customers. The product is a marketing content platform: 50+ templates for ads, landing pages, emails and product descriptions, a long-form editor, and Brand Voice — the feature that justifies the subscription. After we uploaded three sample documents, Jasper's ad variants matched the reference tone noticeably better than a raw ChatGPT prompt on the same brief. That gap is the whole value proposition: if you manage several writers and everything they ship must sound like one brand, Jasper saves real editing time.

In our launch-email test, Jasper produced the most immediately usable sequence of the three — structured subject lines, sensible preview text, and CTAs that matched the brief's audience. The blog post test was more ordinary: a competent, well-organized first draft that still needed a human pass for facts and for any opinion worth reading.

The honest weaknesses: no free plan (7-day trial, card required); Creator is a single seat with a single Brand Voice, so teams are pushed to Pro at $59–69/seat/mo; and the SEO mode is a Surfer integration — full Surfer functionality may require its own subscription, so check what is included before assuming your SEO stack is covered. Jasper Art (image generation) is a convenience add-on, not a reason to buy.

Pricing as of writing: Creator $39/mo annual ($49 monthly), Pro $59/seat/mo annual ($69 monthly), Business custom. Read our full Jasper review →

Copy.ai: no longer the cheap copywriting tool you remember

Copy.ai's pivot is the most dramatic of the three. It now sells itself as a GTM AI platform, and the pricing tells the story: the only individually affordable plan is Chat at $29/mo ($24 annual) — 5 seats, unlimited words in chat, and access to OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini models in one interface. Everything that makes Copy.ai “Copy.ai” in 2026 — Workflows, the chained automations for lead enrichment, personalized outreach and sales content — starts at Growth, $1,000/month billed annually with 75 seats and 20,000 workflow credits. There is no plan between $29 and $1,000, and the old free tier is gone (as of writing).

In our tests the chat interface was fast and the multi-model access is genuinely convenient — switching the same ad brief between models without copy-pasting between tabs is a small but real workflow win. Short-form output (the ten LinkedIn ad variants) was Copy.ai's best result of our three briefs: punchy, varied, and the most usable raw. The blog post was the weakest of the three — looser structure, more generic filler, clearly a tool optimized for short-form.

The catch for buyers: at $24/mo for 5 seats, the Chat plan is excellent value as a shared team chat — but it does not include Workflows or Brand Voice training, so it competes with ChatGPT Team more than with Jasper. And the $1,000/mo Growth tier is an enterprise GTM purchase that should be evaluated against sales engagement platforms, not against writing tools. Buy Copy.ai for what it is now, not for what it was.

Pricing as of writing: Chat $24/mo annual ($29 monthly, 5 seats); Growth $1,000/mo; Expansion $2,000/mo; Scale $3,000/mo; Enterprise custom. Read our full Copy.ai review →

Writesonic: an AI visibility platform with a writer inside

Writesonic made the boldest bet of the three: it now leads with AI Search Visibility — tracking whether ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews cite your brand, flagging prompts where competitors get cited instead, and generating content aimed at winning those citations. The old $16–20 unlimited-writing plans are gone; Starter is $79/mo (annual) for one user with 15 AI articles, 10 site audits and 50 tracked prompts per day. Basic ($199/mo) adds seats and volume; Growth ($399/mo) unlocks sentiment analysis and the Action Center.

In our blog-post test, Writesonic produced the strongest SEO-oriented draft of the three: keyword to a structured ~1,500-word article with headings, meta and internal-link suggestions in under twenty minutes. Raw prose still trails what you would get from ChatGPT or Claude directly, and coherence thins past 2,000 words — but as an SEO-content pipeline it is the most complete of the three. The visibility tracking is the differentiator: in our trial it surfaced competitor citations for target prompts that we would not have found manually.

The traps: article allowances do not roll over between months; the “free plan” is effectively a demo, not a working tier; and the GEO features that justify the price are the product now — if you only want an AI writer, $79/mo for 15 articles is poor value next to a $20 general assistant. Buy Writesonic when AI citation share is a measured KPI, not because you remember it being cheap.

Pricing as of writing: Starter $79/mo annual (~$99 monthly), Basic $199/mo annual, Growth $399/mo annual, Enterprise custom. Read our full Writesonic review →

Head-to-head on the things that matter

Output quality (same three briefs)

Launch email sequence: Jasper > Copy.ai > Writesonic. Blog post (SEO brief): Writesonic > Jasper > Copy.ai. Ten LinkedIn ad variants: Copy.ai > Jasper > Writesonic. No tool produced publish-ready long-form without a human pass; all three were genuinely usable for short-form with light edits.

Pricing reality

Entry prices are misleading in all three cases. Jasper's $39/mo Creator is one seat with one Brand Voice — teams land on Pro quickly. Copy.ai's $24/mo Chat is a chat product; the automation platform is $1,000/mo. Writesonic's $79/mo Starter is a taste of GEO with a hard 15-article ceiling. Budget for the plan that matches the job, not the headline number.

Brand voice & governance

Jasper is the clear leader — Brand Voice training plus campaign tooling is the most mature governance layer of the three. Writesonic offers custom writing styles (two on Lite/Starter-tier plans, unlimited higher up). Copy.ai reserves Brand Voice for its GTM tiers.

SEO & AI search

Writesonic is the only one where AI-answer visibility tracking is native, and its article pipeline is the most SEO-complete. Jasper leans on a Surfer integration. Copy.ai has essentially exited this fight — no native SEO or visibility features to speak of.

Which one should you choose?

Frequently asked questions

Is Jasper better than Copy.ai?

For marketing content, yes in most cases. Jasper is built around brand voice, campaign templates and long-form marketing output. Copy.ai has repositioned itself as a go-to-market automation platform — its strength in 2026 is sales and outreach workflows, not copywriting. If your job is producing on-brand marketing content, Jasper fits better. If your job is automating prospecting and outreach at scale, that is now Copy.ai's home turf.

Which of the three has a free plan?

As of writing (October 2026), none of them has a working free tier. Jasper offers a 7-day trial (credit card required). Writesonic offers a free trial with no credit card. Copy.ai removed its free plan — its entry point is now the $29/month Chat plan. If you need a genuinely free AI writer, ChatGPT or Gemini's free tiers are the realistic options.

What happened to Writesonic's $20 writing plans?

They are gone. Writesonic repositioned in 2026 from an AI writing tool into an AI Search Visibility (GEO) platform. Paid plans now start at $79/month (billed annually) and are built around tracking whether your brand is cited inside ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews — the article writer survives as a feature inside those plans, not as the product.

Is Copy.ai still a copywriting tool?

Not really. Copy.ai now markets itself as a GTM (go-to-market) AI platform. Its headline feature is Workflows — chained automations for lead enrichment, personalized outreach and sales content. The $29/month Chat plan still gives you a capable multi-model chat with 5 seats, but the workflow automation that defines the product starts at $1,000/month.

Which is cheapest for a solo freelancer?

Copy.ai's Chat plan at $24/month (annual billing) is the cheapest entry of the three, and it includes 5 seats. But honestly: if you are a solo writer who mainly needs prose, ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro at $20/month will match or beat all three on raw writing quality. You pay for Jasper, Copy.ai or Writesonic when you need their platform layer — brand governance, GTM automation, or AI visibility tracking — not for the writing itself.

Do these tools replace an SEO tool like Surfer or Semrush?

No. Jasper's SEO mode is powered by a Surfer integration and full Surfer functionality may require a separate subscription. Writesonic bundles site audits and AI visibility tracking, which covers part of what an SEO suite does, but dedicated tools still go deeper on keyword research, backlinks and technical SEO. Treat the SEO features in all three as complements, not replacements.

How we compared: all three platforms were tested hands-on in October 2026 using the same three marketing briefs (launch email sequence, SEO blog post, LinkedIn ad batch).
